Learning Ladder’s toddler room orientation program is an important step in your child’s transition to childcare. Orientation can help your child manage separation anxiety and gives both you and your toddler a chance to become familiar with your new surroundings.
Here’s what to expect during our orientation program:
The orientation program enables us to start to get to know your family, including your child’s likes, dislikes, interests, and needs, as well as your family background. This helps us plan programs and activities that will engage your child while helping them realise their unique developmental milestones. Our educators understand that starting childcare can be daunting for all involved, so we do everything we can to ease the process.
During orientation, your child can explore our indoor and outdoor learning environments and meet their educators. We’ll invite your child to participate in structured activities around the room while allowing them the freedom to explore the environments through open-ended play. Your child can also meet the other children in the room. This socialisation will help your child feel more at ease on their first day as they recognise some familiar faces to play with.
As a parent, you’ll have the chance to tour our rooms, meet the educators, and ask any questions. The orientation sessions are a good time to discuss your child’s interests and routine with their educators. Educators will also help you prepare for your child’s first day, providing information on what to expect at drop-off and what to pack for your child.
Questions to ask during orientation
∙What will my child’s day look like?
∙How do you communicate with your parents?
∙How do you handle discipline?
∙What should I do if my child has an accident?
∙How do you handle separations and drop-offs?
∙What should I do if my child is sick?
Even if you’ve taken part in our orientation program, the first day of childcare can still be a little overwhelming. It’s normal to feel a mix of emotions – sadness, anxiety, excitement, relief – and both you and your child may shed a few tears. The most important thing is to communicate with the educators so that they can best support your child during this adjustment period. With time and patience, your child will soon settle into their new routine and make some great friends in the process! When you want to see how your child is adjusting to Learning Ladder, you’re welcome to call us or check our Learning Ladder Connect app for the latest updates on your child’s day.
We know that every family is different, which is why we tailor our orientation sessions to meet the needs of your little one and you. If you’re considering childcare for your toddler, please get in touch with us to learn more or book a tour of your local Learning Ladder centre.
