This week our Pre-Kinder children have been exploring science concepts through inquiry.
When children engage in play-based, hands-on learning they are engaging in scientific experimentation.
The Pre-Kinder children at Learning Ladder were faced with a question – “Will it sink or will it float?” Children hypothesize what might happen, and analyse their theories “Why?”
The children then experiment through hands-on learning (inquiry-based learning) by testing their hypothesis – The Pre-kinder children did this by placing the different items into the water and watched the items float and sink.
These hands-on activities enable the children to promote scientific thinking such as to cause and effect, observations, comparison, reasoning, data gathering, experimentation and evaluation.
